Level 3 Unveils New Self-Service Path To AWS

Level 3 Communications, one of the biggest names in networking, has unveiled a new self-serve capability directly to AWS, as part of its Cloud Connect Solutions.

This new offering aims to help customers maximize the potential of both their clouds, and the networks connected to them.

Going by the name of eLynk, this new service allows users to host multiple virtual local area networks on a single Ethernet virtual circuit — directly from their datacenters to AWS with the Direct Connect service that is used to optimize cloud based workloads.

According to Paul Savill, the senior vice president of core products at Level 3, this new capability reduces the administrative burden on partners and customers by empowering them with the ability to self-serve either via the API, or the MyLevel3 portal.

As noted:

“The power of agility in today’s competitive marketplace is not overstated. Global businesses need network resources that are flexible enough to be leveraged as a service, with the reliability and security they can rely on to deliver critical business applications. Level 3 eLynk is just another tool in the Cloud Connect Solutions set that simplifies the process of procuring network resources in the cloud and puts greater visibility and control in the end user’s hands.”

Customers can now add and remove VLANs to AWS, including connections to their virtual private clouds.

They can also share bandwidth across their Amazon virtual private cloud instances, and Leven 3 is offering this new service across the Metro 2.0 Ethernet footprint of nearly 290 markets in North America, EMA and Asia Pacific.
