Amazon Opens Joint Innovation Center In New Taipei

Taiwan

Taiwan is getting in on the action! Amazon has confirmed the opening of a new joint innovation in New Taipei City this Thursday, making it the company’s first joint innovation center there.

The news comes via Taiwan News, who revealed that the office will be formed through a Memorandum Of Understanding between AWS, the New Taipei City government and the investment firm FCC Partners. As noted above, the location is in the Banqiao District.

A press conference is scheduled for Thursday, January 11, where the official agreement will be signed, and further details on the functions of this new office will be announced.

Also expected is the AWS Corporate VP and Managing Director of Greater China Alex Yung, as well as the Chairman of FCC Partners, Huang Chi-yuan, along with Chairman of Fareast Group, Douglas Hsu.

Not to be missed is the Mayor of New Taipei City, Eric Chu.

Speaking of politics, the Ministry of Economic Affairs considers the arrival of the AWS center as a strategic decision in the Asia Silicon Valley Development Plan. While FCC Partners Chairman considers Amazon Web Services as the most important division of Amazon as a whole.

The cloud giant is coming off of a fairly long window of negotiations here, with talks apparently having begun last June.

FCC partner chairman, Huang says will focus on three new trains of thoughts — namely, internationalization, integration, and innovation. According to the FCC Partners Chairman, the company’s presence in the country, it is said, will pioneer the shift from traditional industries into digital markets in Taiwan.

Couldn’t have asked for a better start to the year.

Couldn’t.
