Amazon ECS pricing

First let’s get to the elephant in the room. The ECS service is free to use. As Amazon explains in the pricing, you only pay for the AWS resources that you use like EC2 instances and EBS volumes that are part of your clusters, and used to run your application.

There are no minimum fees, no upfront commitments, and you only pay for what you use.

That said, the fine folks over at AWS have put up a handy little calculator that lets you input some details and then calculate how much you can expect to pay for your containerized environment on the Amazon Web Services cloud.

You can take a look at it here to calculate your costs.

As always, it is doubly important to have your containerized apps and workloads to make the most efficient use of the cloud resources at your disposal. One of the pitfalls of containers is that it is easy to get carried away with them, launching tens or even hundreds of them at once, and not turning them back off when they are no longer needed.

For that reason, a good container orchestration solution becomes absolutely vital.
